Partial Ranking and Alternating Vowels in Polish
نویسنده
چکیده
1. Introduction The three nominal paradigms in (1) illustrate the fundamental problem posed by Slavic alternating vowels, called yers. In (1b) a full vowel appears throughout the inflectional paradigm; the stem is invariant. In (1c) the stem is also invariant and ends in a consonant cluster regardless of the following inflectional morphology. The paradigm in (1a) contains the yer vowel (underlined). This vowel is phonetically identical to the [ε] in (1b), but, unlike the vowel in (1b), the yer only appears when the following inflection is null and deletes otherwise, creating an alternation in the stem.

English trap Vowel in Advanced Polish Learners: Variation and System Typology
The productions of English TRAP, DRESS and STRUT vowels are analysed acoustically in advanced Polish learners of English in an EFL setting. TRAP is shown to be less well-defined than the other two vowels, presumably due to partially fossilised “assimilation” to the corresponding Polish vowels /a/ and /ɛ/. There is considerable inter-speaker variation in the distribution of TRAP tokens, with fou...
متن کاملReplacement of fish meal by plant protein sources in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) diet: growth performance and utilization
The nutritional suitability and cost effectiveness of rice polish and mustard oil cake as protein sources in the diet of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) were studied. This study introduced rice polish as a plant protein source for Nile tilapia and three diets were formulated using rice polish (0, 10 and 20%) and mustard oil cake (10.0, 17.6 and 22.0%) for a feeding trail of eight weeks to ...

متن کاملThe Boolean formula value problem is in ALOGTIME (Preliminary Version)
The Boolean formula value problem is in alternating log time and, more generally, parenthesis context-free languages are in alternating log time. The evaluation of reverse Polish notation Boolean formulas is also in alternating log time. These results are optimal since the Boolean formula value problem is complete for alternating log time under deterministic log time reductions. Consequently, i...
متن کاملThe gradient effect of transitional magnitude: A source of the vowel context effect
The present study examines the role of transitional magnitude in the identification of consonant place. Transitions in the three vowels /u a e/ following the alveopalatal sibilant /ɕ/ in Polish were systematically manipulated and used as a gradient variable. In an identification task, native Polish speakers were given a choice between /ɕ/ and /ʂ/ for stimuli with varying levels of palatal trans...
